Web ProtectFrom Support Center
Web Protect allows you to password protect a directory (folder) on your web site. Globat's Web Protect allows you to easily configure multiple users to access one single protected directory.
Caution: You will need to create the directory (folder) with File Manager or your FTP client before you protect it. Web Protect does not create the directory for you. In this example, we'll protect the existing directory private_stuff in httpdocs which that I went ahead and created with File Manager. (See the File Manager page for information on creating directories/folders). ![]() If you have not yet created any protected directories, your screen will look similar to the one pictured above. Click the "Add Directory" Button. ![]() Next, enter the name of the directory you wish to protect. In this example, we're protecting private_stuff. For the header text (shown below!) we'll enter "This Area is Restricted." You may enter any message you wish when protecting a directory. Click "Add" to protect the directory. Here's a screenshot of what the Login Box will look like in Windows XP when a user tries to access the protected directory: ![]() Now, we'll need to create at least one user login so the directory can be accessed. ![]() Click "Add User." ![]() In this example, I'll be giving my friend Joe access to private_stuff. Remember, usernames and passwords are case sensitive on UNIX systems, so I'm going to call him joe with a lowercase j. We're entering a hard-to-guess password for joe. Next, click "Create" to add the user. The user screen for the protected directory private_stuff now looks like this: ![]() I can edit or delete the user joe from this screen, or add more users if I wish to do so. Once you've finished adding users, click the "Web Protect"' link to see a summary of protected directories. ![]() > Globat Gallery |
