Mozilla ThunderbirdFrom Support CenterThis tutorial illustrates how to configure Thunderbird for use with Globat's POP3 Mailboxes. To create a new POP3 Mailbox on the server, follow the instructions in Creating Mailboxes. There is additional information on setting up other e-mail clients in Using 3rd Party E-mail Applications. Configuring a New AccountIf you have not yet set up any Thunderbird accounts, you will be prompted with the Account Wizard screen when Thunderbird starts. If you have already configured other Thunderbird accounts, choose "File" from the menu within Thunderbird, then "New,"' then "Account..." You will then see a screen similar to this: ![]() Select "Email Account" and then click "Next." We're going to set up the webmaster POP3 Mailbox created in the example in Creating Mailboxes. On the next screen: ![]() Enter your "Your Name:" as you would like it to appear on outgoing mail. Enter the e-mail address of the account you are setting up. In our example, our name is "The Webmaster" and the e-mail address is webmaster@globat-example.com. After entering your information, click "Next." On the next screen, you'll be asked to select POP or IMAP. Select POP. ![]() For the incoming server, use mail.example.com, replacing example.com with your Globat domain name. It our example, our Globat domain name is globat-example.com, so we filled in mail.globat-example.com. You'll see a "Use Global Inbox" checkbox. If you're checking more than one account and check this box all incoming e-mail will use one Global inbox. If you wish to keep all your mail from this mailbox separate from other mail, uncheck the box. If you have not yet set up any SMTP servers, you will be prompted for an outgoing server. Use the same server you used in the setting above. Then, click "Next." ![]() On the next screen, you're asked for your username. Use your full e-mail address. In our example, we're using webmaster@globat-example.com. Then, click "Next." On the next screen, you can customize the mailbox display name in Thunderbird. In our example, we'll use the default setting. ![]() Then, click "Next." You're now at the last screen! Confirm your settings, and click "Finish." You'll be prompted for a password the first time your e-mail downloads. If you want Thunderbird to remember your password, check "Use Password Manager to remember this password." ![]() To test your settings, click the "Write" button, and compose an e-mail to yourself. ![]() ![]() When you have finished composing the message, click "Send." Enter your password again if prompted. Then, click the "Get Mail" button. ![]() If everything is configured correctly, your test e-mail should have been received! ![]() Changing SMTP settings To GlobatIf you already have e-mail accounts configured in Thunderbird, your default SMTP may be from your ISP. If you would prefer to use Globat's SMTP server instead of the one of your ISP, follow these instructions: In Thunderbird, Select the "Tools" menu, then click the "Account Settings..." option. In the Account Settings window, click "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" : ![]() You can change your SMTP settings from within this interface. Remember, your SMTP server is mail.example.com, replacing example.com with your Globat domain name, and your username is your full e-mail address. "Use name and password" must be checked to send mail through Globat's SMTP servers. There are also more advanced Thunderbird settings that allow you to configure a separate SMTP server for each account, if you wish to research that option. |
