How often do you back up my web site? Is it performed daily?

Yes, backups are performed on a daily basis of both your web content and databases. If there is a system failure, we will be able to restore your data. Currently, there are no backups for email stored on our mail server but there are plans for providing that in the future.

I have already paid for the subdomain package and my account shows that they are enabled. How do I set them up?

Subdomains are set up by simply creating a subfolder in your httpdocs directory with the same name as the fully qualified subdomain name. (e.g. sub.domain.com). This subdirectory will automatically become the root directory for your subdomain. You do not need to create an httpdocs directory within the subdomain folder.
Also, note that for FrontPage, you will still want to access the subdirectory through the main site. There will not be a seperate set of FrontPage extensions available for each subdomain.

Can I merge two or more accounts within the Globat Command Console?

Yes, accounts can be linked together within the Globat Command Console. After logging in to the GCC (https://login.globat.com/), go to the Accounts tab. Then, go to the "Link Account" tab. There, simply enter in the domain name of the account you want to link along with the GCC login password for that domain. Clicking on "Update" will then link the accounts together allowing you to easily switch between each linked account from the drop-down selection in the upper righthand corner. This can be done with as many accounts as you desire.

With the TeraByte Extreme™ and TeraByte XS™ hosting package, am I able to add additional domain entries?

Additional domains is a great way to have another domain name point to same hosting plan without the need to purchase additional hosting plan(s) or to maintain additional websites. With this feature enabled, you can have 10 domain names on the TeraByte Extreme™ (http://www.globat.com/products/comparepackages.htm) and 100 domains on the TeraByte XS™ (http://www.globat.com/products/comparepackages.htm) hosting plan.

Is it possible to decompress a ZIP or TAR file once uploaded via GCC or FTP?

There is no built-in feature to decompress files, but if you are familiar with UNIX commands, you can create a work-around by creating a PHP script within httpdocs, changing its permissions to 755, executing the script, waiting several minutes for the decompression to occur, and then immediately deleting the PHP script. Here's an example of the code, selected from our phpBB installation guide:
<?php
 exec("tar xzf phpBB-2.0.17.tar.gz");
?>

Do your servers have redundant connections to the Internet?

We currently have one primary connection to the Internet to our backbone provider. There are plans to move to a network configuration where we have multiple connections to multiple providers so that we would be able to intelligently route our traffic around any network problems that may be affecting our upstream providers.

Where can I learn more about your servers and your facility?

More detailed information can be found out about our network at http://www.globat.com/network/ .

Are your servers monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week?

Yes, our system administration team closely monitors our network on a 24/7 basis. Our sophisticated monitoring capabilities allow us to detect and provide a very quick response to any problem that may affect your site.

How do I change my Globat account’s username and password?

The ability to change your password is available through the Globat Command Console. Just log in (https://login.globat.com/), go to the "Account" tab and then to the "Change Account" subtab. We do not offer the functionality to change your username.

Can I use my own php.ini?

You can use your own php.ini by putting the file in the same directory as the php file that was meant to use it. However, this is not recommended and not supported. We have a default php.ini that has been designed to work best with our customer environment and using your own will overwrite our changes. The recommended method for setting php environmental variables is to use the ini_set() php call. Not all environmental variables will be allowed to be overridden though, specifically those dealing with resource limitations.

Can I turn register_globals = on?

register_globals is on by default on our systems.
