How do I create and setup users?
- Absolute admin and admin users with user management permissions can set up users and can control which users have access to folders and files in visualEdit. You can disallow access to folders and files by users.
- To create a user, go to Manage -> Users and select Add User
- You will need to populate general user info with a username and password which will be used to login to the admin console. You will also be asked to provide additional user information: First Name, Last Name, Email, Default Language, and number of History Items to be shown.
How do I add templates?
- Template support means that you can easily create new pages based on templates.
- To add a new template, go to Manage -> Templates and select Add Template
Can I move visualEdit to a new address/location?
- If you are moving visualEdit to a new physical server location, the first step will be to relocate the actual visualEdit web installation directory. This is typically done using FTP to simply download the entire directory and then upload it to its new location.
- If the location of the visualEdit database will change as well, then it will be necessary to manually edit the files which store this information. They are located in the /visualedit/admin/ folder and are called engine.inc.php and authentication_db.inc.php. The first five lines of each of these files contain, in order, settings for the database host, username, password, and database name.
- Setting up visualEdit to recognize its new location
- Whether or not the physical server location of visualEdit has been changed, it is necessary to inform visualEdit of its web location any time the URL by which it is accessed is changed. There are two steps to this:
- Reactivating the software's license. In order to reactivate visualEdit at its new location, simply open up the /visualedit/admin/updater.php script in your browser, and enter your product serial number. If you receive a license error, it means that you have exceeded the number of activations that your license allows. In this case, simply contact us by e-mail or live chat to have your license reset.
- Changing the software's internal URL. In order to work properly, visualEdit must know its own location. You can change the software's location by editing the "Public URL" setting, which can be found under the Manage menu's "Settings" option. It is the top right setting on this page, as pictured below. You may also need to edit the location of your visualEdit interface logo, which is immediately below the "Public URL" setting.
