AutorespondersFrom Support Center
If you are not yet familiar with the types of Email addresses offered by Globat, please see Globat's Email overview section. When you leave town on vacation or you are going to be out of the office for any reason, it is very useful to have your e-mail inform the sender that you can get back to them as soon as possible. An Auto Responder will allow you to select the e-mail address that will respond to the sender and also permit the inclusion of a short message giving instructions to the sender as to your whereabouts or when you expect to return. Autoresponders can also serve a second purpose: You can set up an e-mail autoresponder to respond with information relevant to a certain question or product on your web site. Let's say you're selling books, and want the information on shipping to be obtained by e-mail. You could set up shippinginfo@example.com (where example.com is replaced by your Globat domain name) and have it respond with prices and conditions for shipping. We'll show you how to set up both types of autoresponders below: the basic principle of each is identical. "Out of Office" AutoresponderYou can actually call this anything you would like. You'll be setting up an autoresponder on a POP3 Mailbox or Forwarder E-mail that is already set up. Your e-mail will still pass through and be delivered the way it would before, but whoever e-mails you will get an automatic response right away. So you'll get a copy of the message, and the person e-mailing you will get an autoresponse. Let's get started:
For the sake of this exercise, we're working with webmaster@globat-example.com, which was created in the POP3 Mailbox Creation page. Our message will be "Thank you for your e-mail. I will be out of the office until next Monday. [This is an automated response.]" ![]() To create the autoresponder, first click "Autoresponders" to the right of "Forwarders." ![]() Next, click the "Add Autoresponder" button. It will bring you to a screen similar to this (I've gone ahead and entered the information): ![]() Once the information is entered, click the "Create" button. ![]() With this autoresponder enabled, the message e-mailed to webmaster@globat-example.com is delivered to the webmaster@globat-example.com POP3 Mailbox, and the person e-mailing webmaster@globat-example.com gets this reply immediately: From: webmaster@globat-example.com Subject: Out of the Office "Informational" AutoresponderAnother popular autoresponder use is the "Informational" autoresponder. This autoresponder sends back information. You do not need to set up a POP3 Mailbox or Forwarder E-mail address to use this type of autoresponder. In this example, we'll use shippinginfo@globat-example.com to reply with some general shipping information on imaginary products we're selling.
To create the autoresponder, first click "Autoresponders" to the right of "Forwarders." ![]() Next, click the "Add Autoresponder" button. It will bring you to a screen similar to this (I've gone ahead and entered the information): ![]() Once the information is entered, click the "Create" button. ![]() Now when someone writes an e-mail to shippinginfo@globat-example.com, they get this response: Subject: Shipping Information From: shippinginfo@globat-example.com > Default Email Address |
