Setting up Galleries

Description: The Globat Gallery component is a fully integrated image gallery and manager for your website. It allows the upload and manipulation of multiple images, including additional files types for organizing and displaying to selected groups or any viewer. Additionally, any approved visitor can be given permission to upload to the gallery.

Purpose: E-mailing large image files which most e-mail providers disallow or depending on other limited web based “shared” photo-albums can be frustrating for persons wishing to display multiple images or files. Most image to web applications are limited in file size and can be quite difficult to manage. The Globat Gallery is available for every Globat customer and with a Globat hosting account; you can use up to your full package quota of space for your images.

The gallery component is also organized so that you can create many different albums marking different occasions or subject matter.

What does it look like?

Uploading files and images with hyperlinks

One of the most convenient features of the Globat Gallery is that you are able to upload up to 5 images at a time. You can also upload links to images anywhere on the web. If you know the URL to an image on a site that you’d like to include in your gallery, copy the shortcut from your browser and paste it in the URI/URL Uploads fields under the images upload.

If you are uploading images: select BROWSE to find the image on your local computer. A “Windows” file explorer or File Locater on Mac will guide you in locating a picture on your system. This is also true if you have an additional media capture device such as a Digital Camera connected to your computer. The Globat Gallery component will compress any image for thumbnail view.

Once the files and URLs have been uploaded to your server, a success screen will show the results.

In this example a picture of a rubber ducky and a link to an image on a web site were uploaded. After the continue button has been selected you are then directed to the gallery view again.

Image:afterupload.jpg

As you will notice, the last image uploaded to your new gallery is the first to be displayed. You will also have the options of creating Titles for your images and descriptions. The gallery component also permits some Rich Text Formatting to bold and italicize your textual descriptions. There is also the capability of adding links from your text as well as an e-mail address under the image in the gallery.

The last feature is allocation of keywords for the images you upload. This is for the “Search” feature of your gallery. The more keywords that you place in this section will help users to find specific images based on their subject matter.

Sorting the albums that are in your gallery is a very simple task. Albums can be moved one by one in the arrangement of choice.

Managing and Editing Photos

Editing photos with the edit files selection displays all photos associated with an album. The default setting for the amount of photos to be displayed is 25 and settings can be changed to show up to 100 photos from any gallery.

One additional feature provides more control over the image including rotating the image, cropping the image and saving the image as a “thumbnail.” This is done with the “Coppermine Picture Editor. “ Double clicking on an image in the gallery mode will transfer you to editor mode.

Figure 23 – Rotate Image

Rotating the image has settings for 180 degrees and 90 degrees clockwise and counter-clockwise. With the “Enable Clipping, Apply to crop" selection checked, bounding box handles appear around the image and can be positioned to “frame out” undesired portions of the image while cropping a specific area of the image.

The editor also includes a preview mode to show the changes before they are saved and change the image master in the gallery.

Quality of the image can also be altered to reduce the size of the image on the server. The “JPEG Output Quality” dropdown box has settings as low as 10% of the original quality.
