Why was my Web site suspended?
- Only as a last resort will Globat.com ever suspend your site. There are a few limited circumstances under which we must suspend your site such as failing to pay your bill, displaying pictures or text owned by others, using someone else's trademark or service mark without his permission, using you site for phishing, fraudulent or criminal activity or allowing someone to use your site in such a manner or other reasons as identified in Globat.com's agreement(s) with you.
I received a letter from the legal department informing me that my Web site is violating the DMCA. What does that mean?
- The DMCA stands for the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, passed by Congress in 1998. The Act reiterates copyright law that prevents third parties from using third parties copyrights without the copyright owner's permission. When Globat.com is notified by a copyright owner that one of our customers is using the copyright owner's picture or text, the legal department will require you to delete any infringing copyrights. You have the right to contest the copyright owner's claim by filing a counter notice within seven (7) days. Failure to respond to a legal notice will result in your site's suspension.
I was informed that my domain name is being challenged by ICANN. What is ICANN and why is my domain being challenged?
- ICANN is the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. Sometimes the domain name you select is someone else's trademark, trade name or similar to someone else's trademark or trade name. ICANN acts as the arbitrator to determine whether you can use the disputed domain name. ICANN is not the sole remedy for an owner of a trademark or trade name. ICANN can force the domain name to be transferred to the rightful owner.
